FRA Offers Fire Policy Assistance

On December 26, the Forest Resources Association wrote to U.S. Forest Service Chief Mike Dombeck, affirming FRA's position that the recent history of catastrophic wildfire within the National Forest system demonstrates the need for "active management, including the appropriately applied use of fire, planting, and harvesting," to protect the system's health and integrity. Furthermore, "our intent is not to criticize but rather to volunteer our efforts and assistance and to request the opportunity to provide input to, or serve on, any appropriate task groups you may appoint to address the issue of improving the management and health of our National Forest lands." The letter, signed by FRA Chairman Bill Baughman and FRA President Richard Lewis, expresses a position adopted by the FRA Board at its fall 2000 meeting. To review the letter, please click here.
