WSRI "Unused Capacity" Report

FRA has published results of a major study by the Wood Supply Research Institute (WSRI), the Causes and Costs of Unused Wood Production Capacity (02-A-5), providing valuable insights for wood consumer and suppliers alike. Based on extensive research conducted in the U.S. South and Maine, the 27-page report presents results of a WSRI-directed study conducted jointly by the University of Georgia, Louisiana State University, and the University of Maine. It quantifies factors implicated in preventing wood suppliers from utilizing their full capacity, estimates costs to the entire wood supply system owing to underutilized capacity, and identifies systemic factors associated with high and low capacity utilization.
