Fendig
new WSRI Executive Director
The three-year-old
Wood Supply Research Institute has retained former FRA Chairman Jim
Fendig to serve as its new Executive Director, beginning mid-April,
with administrative support from FRA. "We
are very pleased that a person with Jim's experience and respected
record in the business of forestry and wood supply has made himself
available at this crucial point in the Institute's development," stated
WSRI Chairman, Dr. Billy Watson of Georgia-Pacific. "He has a proven
ability to reach out to both suppliers and consumers of wood and has
great insight into organizational effectiveness." Jim's career has
included long and distinguished terms leading woodlands organizations
at Union Camp and Southwest Forest Industries.
With support and
governance divided equally between loggers' associations and wood
consuming companies, WSRI identifies opportunities for increasing
efficiency in the wood supply system so as to benefit both segments.
It then funds and guides peer-reviewed research to open up those opportunities.
WSRI voted to transfer its administrative functions to FRA at its
April 12 Board Meeting. Housing WSRI within FRA joins the only two
national organizations that represent both the wood fiber supply and
wood consumer sides of the forest resource business.
