Meet Larry Davis FRA has hired
Larry Davis as its Southeastern Region Forester to replace
the departing Mike Wetzel. Larry has 22 years' experience as an industry
forester, in forest management, procurement, research, and strategic
planning and analysis, including 20 years with the former Champion
International, and most recently with Rayonier.
"What excites me most about this job is the opportunity it provides to work face-to-face with hundreds of people in the Southeast, many who are already good friends of mine, to find hundreds of things we can do better," he says. "Hundreds of people times hundreds of improvements equals a lot of value. The beauty of working at FRA is that we then expand that value exponentially by sharing and compounding ideas across the membership. I hope you'll excuse my use of mathematics to describe what excites me about this job -- but it really does come down to simple multiplication of good ideas." Larry has been married to his wife, Shelia, for 27 years. Their son, Justin, is now a sophomore at Duke, studying math, and their daughter, Lauren, will begin a high school program at the Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville this fall, focusing on creative writing. Larry holds a BS in forestry from Louisiana Tech University and an MS in forest economics from Mississippi State. He has worked in ten Southern states and has served on the North Carolina Forestry Association Board of Directors and the South Carolina Governors Forestry Advisory Council. He may be reached at FRA's Aiken office at 803/643-9880. Back to "News" Forest Resources Association
