Rating European Forests In August, Georgia-Pacific launched an e-commerce business on a pilot basis to help supplement its Brunswick, Georgia pulp mill's committed wood supply. This electronic procurement system functions as an on-line reverse auction, through which suppliers who have fulfilled G-P's Sustainable Forestry Initiative(SM) compliance requirements and signed Purchase At Plant agreements may bid on pine gatewood contracts, week by week, of stated specifications. Available contracts are posted at www.eWoodOrder.com every Wednesday, and registered loggers view and compete with anonymous bids over seven days, for the next week's delivery. Two weeks into the launch, G-P notes good supplier acceptance of the system and that it is reducing G-P's own transaction costs, although "we don't anticipate using electronic bidding and purchasing for our entire wood fiber needs."
