TREE PLANTING REPORT The U.S. Forest Service has placed its report Treeplanting in the United States, summarizing data for 1998, on its web site at www.rtp.srs.fs.fed.us/econ/pubs/rjm001.htm. Plantings on all ownerships that year totaled 2.6 million acres, according to the report, the second largest acreage planted in any year since 1990; of that acreage, 1 million acres (38%) were owned by members of the American Forest and Paper Association and managed under Sustainable Forestry Initiative(SM) guidelines. Nonindustrial private landowners planted 48% of the total, and national forest plantings accounted for 6%. Back to "News" Forest Resources Association
