U.S. SENDING LOGGING TEAM TO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP May's Northern Logger & Timber Processor covers the rigorous preparation surrounding the U.S. logging team-the delegation this country will send to the 24th World Championship of Loggers, later this year in Norway. Author Ann Whynman indicates 2000 will be the first time the U.S. has sent a team to this annual competition, which has shuttled between various European countries since it originated. The competition comprises five "events"-precision felling, limbing, a timed "chain-fitting" event, and two different precision bucking events-with team members' scores totaled into a composite team score. About 30 countries will send teams this year. The U.S. team, sponsored by Husqvarna, consists of FRA supplier member Dan Hartranft, of Montoursville, Pennsylvania; Bill Lindloff, of Endicott, New York (employed by FRA supplier member Craig Jochum), and Joe Glenn of Rome, Indiana. The three have been training on Norway spruce in Schoharie County, New York, to simulate Norwegian conditions. All three are certified Game of Logging instructors.
