LOUISIANA "OSHA PARTNERSHIP"

The Louisiana Logging Council has reached a very constructive agreement with the Louisiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration Consultation Service (OSHA's consultative branch in the state) to enable information exchange, training opportunities, and courtesy inspections, without the onus of involvement from OSHA's enforcement branch. This "Logging Contractor/OSHA Strategic Partnership," in which any Louisiana logger may participate, calls on loggers to provide the Logging Council with information on recent on-the-job injuries, which the Council then forwards to OSHA without reference to companies or individuals. OSHA then provides its analysis of the accident and, as trends emerge from accumulated analyses, provides training seminars to address identified risk areas. In addition, a logger's participation implies consent to a courtesy inspection by the Louisiana OSHA Consultation Service, which will not issues fines to out-of-compliance loggers but will extract an obligation to bring the operation into compliance within a set time-frame. For more information, contact the Louisiana Logging Council's Clyde Todd at 318/443-2558.
