Rockville, MD – The Forest Resources
Association and the Arkansas Timber Producers Association have announced
the dates and place for the next In-Woods Expo, following the success of
its premiere edition, held last spring. In-Woods Expo 2007 will
run three days, April 26-28, 2007 (Thursday through Saturday), on
a managed forest in western Arkansas’s Hot Springs – Little Rock
corridor.
Nearly 3,000 loggers, foresters, landowners, teachers, kids, and others
curious about the future of forestry and logging attended In-Woods Expo
2004, where they viewed today’s and tomorrow’s harvesting and forest
management systems in action.
Of the 79 exhibitors that displayed equipment and systems at this
year’s In-Woods Expo, 16 provided live demos of equipment at work in
the woods: Bandit, Barko, BW&C Equipment, CSI, Deere, Franklin, JNS
Equipment, Komatsu Forest, Timber Ax, Morbark, Peterson, Ponsse, Vines
Equipment, Tigercat, Warrior of Arkansas, and Wilson Equipment. In
addition, portable saw mill manufacturers Baker Products and Wood Mizer
each demonstrated their systems, and Stihl staged its “Ironjack”
show of traditional woodsmen’s skills.
“We had a tremendous response from the logging community and a great
show from manufacturers and dealers last spring,” commented Expo
co-manager Larry Boccarossa, Executive Director of the Arkansas Timber
Producers Association. “We’ll be looking for the next level in
2007.”
In-Woods Expo’s other co-manager, Richard Lewis, President of the
Forest Resources Association, pointed out that “as the structure of
logging and wood supply continues to transform in the U.S.,
demonstrating new technologies under actual field conditions will help
decision makers move ahead.”
In-Woods Expo 2004 drew more than 1,200 loggers from within and beyond
the mid-South region, as well as 300 company foresters.
In-Woods Expo 2007 will be staged on a 150-acre section of
International Paper’s “Kentucky Refuge” forest, on the corridor
connecting Hot Springs and Little Rock, Arkansas. IP has generously
donated the use of this mixed forest, which it manages for multiple
values, including wildlife habitat, stream protection, and timber, under
the Sustainable Forestry Initiative®.
In-Woods Expo 2007, April 26-28, 2007 in western Arkansas, is a
joint project of the Arkansas Timber Producers Association and
the Forest Resources Association. Visit www.in-woods-expo.com.
