Rockville, MD – On April 30, logger Steve Richardson’s ticket came first out of a drum—making him the very lucky winner of a new 2004 Ford F-150 pickup, culminating a year-long national fundraising push to support Children’s Miracle Network hospitals through Log A Load For Kids®.

Steve operates Richardson Wood Company, based in Warren, Arkansas—and by coincidence the momentous drawing took place in Hot Springs, Arkansas’s Convention Center, across the state, at the national Log A Load For Kids fundraiser held in conjunction with In-Woods Expo 2004. The $82,500 raised through that drawing has been dedicated to CMN hospitals in all contributors’ home states.

Steve has been a leader in Log A Load fundraising in Bradley County since Log A Load started in Arkansas 11 years ago. “In the beginning, we raised three or four thousand dollars, and we thought we were doing pretty good, but we hit $43,313 this last year,” Steve noted. “It’s developed a real good competition with other Arkansas Log A Load fundraising committees, and all that has been good for children’s hospitals.” Steve, along with logger Frank Burt and Potlatch forester Rob Loomis, has co-chaired the Bradley County Log A Load campaign since the beginning. The Bradley County campaign culminates in a special event held each year in the town of Hermitage.

“The Log A Load program seems to touch everyone in the logging business,” Steve commented. “Loggers, saw operators, skidder drivers, truck drivers, mill people, and other community members—everyone has in some way been involved with or been touched by a children’s hospital—because of a son, a daughter, a grandchild, or a neighbor.”

Steve can’t say enough about Ford, either. He already owns four other F-150 pick-ups, as well as an F-700 utility truck for his business, and “I wouldn’t use any other automobile product than Ford.”

The Forest Resources Association Inc. is proud to be the national sponsor of the Log A Load For Kids® program. FRA is a nonprofit trade association concerned with the safe, efficient, and sustainable harvest of forest products and their transport from woods to mill.
