Rockville, MD – The Forest Resources Association has posted a Spanish-language version of its most popular logging safety manual, Timber Harvesting Safety, at its www.loggingsafety.com web site. Access and downloads are free.

“Increasing numbers of Hispanic workers have been finding employment in logging in recent years, and supervisors have been concerned about meeting their safety training needs,” stated Steve Jarvis, FRA’s Director of Forestry Programs. “Since the key to promoting safe work practices is clear communication, this resource clearly has a role to play.”

From the home page at www.loggingsafety.com/spanish/contents-sp.html, the content areas of the Manual are displayed in 13 section headings, so that the viewer can print out a single topic for a training session or special briefing. English-speaking trainers will also find that each page of the original English version of the Manual, at www.loggingsafety.com/thsm.htm, comes with a “click-to” to a Spanish translation of that page. A trainer can easily identify the Spanish text corresponding to each safety topic. Using a Spanish-speaking crew member as a training assistant, a trainer can create an effective bilingual safety training opportunity.

The Spanish pages preserve all the illustrations of the original English version.

The North Carolina Forestry Association produced the translation, under the supervision of FRA’s Southwide Safety Committee, with a grant from the Timber Harvesting and Transportation Safety Foundation (THATS).

The Forest Resources Association Inc. is a nonprofit trade association concerned with the safe, efficient, and sustainable harvest of forest products and their transport from woods to mill.
