TIMING IS IMPORTANT!

If an operation is in progress, a sign should be in place. Don't wait until after the operation has begun.

The most important time for a sign to be in place is during the operation, but it may be advisable to have a sign posted before and afterwards, as well. In that case, make sure the sign's message corresponds to what is happening at the site. If the sign refers to an ongoing operation, remove the sign once the operation is over. If you judge it important to have a sign in place while the new forest is getting established, see that the sign's message is appropriate, using a new sign, if necessary.

As long as the sign is in place, check it regularly to make sure it is in good condition. Vandalism or other factors may force removal or replacement of a sign within two or three months.
