SOUTHERN
APPALACHIAN MULTIPLE-USE COUNCIL
MISSION:
The mission of the Southern Appalachian Multiple Use-Council is to promote
the balanced integration and protection of forestland values (water,
fish & wildlife, timber, recreation, wilderness, grazing) across the
forest landscape in the Southern Appalachians.
OBJECTIVES:
-
To promote the principle of multiple-use as defined by the Multiple
use and Sustained Yield Act of 1960.
-
To promote the education of the general public regarding the benefits
and costs of multiple use management of our forests.
-
To promote and improve the public's understanding and appreciation
of the forest products industry in all its forms.
-
To promote the expansion and development of the renewable forest resource
base to assure adequate forest crops to meet the needs for this and
future generations.

To promote forestry standards of operation which will enhance the
above objectives.

To work in conjunction with all entities involved in land use planning
to affect the above objectives.
ACTIVITIES:

Organizes grassroots activities.

Conducts an active op/ed writing campaign.
-
Conducts educational work with media reporters and editorial staffs.
-
Co-sponsors annual seminar for congressional staff and state legislators.
-
Sponsors annual awards recognizing individuals and organizations for
exemplary natural resource stewardship.
-
Helps organize other grassroots organizations.
