THE APPALACHIAN FOREST MANAGEMENT GROUP

MISSION: The purpose of the Appalachian Forest Management Group is to provide leadership for those engaged in commercial timber production and to promote a balanced approach to forest management that will consider the needs of persons engaged in commercial harvesting of forest products, conservation of forest resources, and appropriate management of forest lands and resources in the multiple-use philosophy.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Sponsors annual September Appalachian Forest Exposition.

  • Writes letters to the editor.

  • Organizes pro-forestry public demonstrations.

  • Monitors U.S. Forest Service timber sales in Virginia and West Virginia.

  • Monitors activities of preservationists in Virginia and West Virginia.

  • Some lobbying.
