ROSE
COMSTOCK:
I have been involved in grassroots efforts and organizations since the listing of the Northern Spotted Owl in the Pacific Northwest. This decision, commonly known as the President's Forest Plan, or Option 9, essentially ignored the horrific social and economic effects on the people who derived their livelihoods from resource activity on federal lands affected by the decision. I was one of the hundreds of thousands who lost it all to the hands of the federal bureaucracy. Since then my primary goal has been to influence and bring about recognition of the absolute need to strike a balance between environmental policy decisions and how it affects anyone's ability to live a chosen life style in rural America. Assuring that future generations will be free to live and work in a proud profession such as the forest products industry, which supports families and rural communities, I work to bring recognition to the socio-economic aspects as critical issues in federal policy decisions and legislation. Working toward this goal, I have placed myself in the midst of the multiple use movement across the nation through active participation at various levels of grassroots activism. From marching in parades to testifying before Congress, I have focused my commitment towards accomplishing these goals through educating legislators, the media, and the general public about the contributions people make to the betterment of our environment and society. I serve as Executive Director for the Northern Sierra Natural Resource Coalition and the West-Pacific Regional Director for the Alliance for America, representing the region of Northern California, Oregon, and Washington.
